YAW Dues solicitation...

Just a reminder from our last update: It has actually beennearly 5 yearssince we have asked for any dues from our membership to help support the activities of the YAW - last time was early winter 2017! These dues aren't required for membership, but are more of a donation to help keep our organization moving and allows for some flexibility with planning events. We also help support the YAW scholarship fund with these monies. We are currently working on our 501c3 status which should be completed in the near future, but for now these monies would not be tax deductible. We don't need much, just a few dollars to help support the cause! The coffers are getting quite low and it's time to replenish a bit.

Any amount is welcome, but we might suggest the following support levels for varying financial comfort levels:

  • YAW Member level - $25

  • YAW Sponsor level - $50

  • YAW Benefactor level - $100

Checks can be made out toYale Association of Wisconsinand may be mailed to our treasurer, Kathy Carey at:
Kathy Carey
4914 N Cumberland Blvd
Whitefish Bay, WI 53217

(BTW, we hope to soon also have a venmo/paypal account for our organization once we finalize our 501c3 process!)

Feb Club 2022 - this Friday February 4th at 7pm! Virtual and in person - PLEASE RSVP

After a hiatus in 2021 due to the pandemic,I'm happy to announce the return of our annual Feb Club party.Feb Club is a tradition that dates back to at least the early 1980's on the Yale Campus - basically it was begun as an excuse to get together with friends during the dreariest month of winter in New Haven, February. When I was a student at Yale in the mid 90's, we had a schedule of parties every night of the month somewhere on campus. Starting round 2008 or so, Yale Alumni started encouraging local alumni groups to have "Yale Feb Club Emeritus" events to get alumni together during February as well. These events are simply social mixers - there is no agenda, no fundraising, no worries, and no hurries. Just a chance to get to meet old friends and make some new Yalie acquaintances! Always a good time.

We'll once again host a get-together at our home in the "toney Washington Highlands" as prior YAW president Alan once said. We ask that people bring along their favorite cocktail or drink to enjoy, and perhaps an hors d'oeurve or dessert to share. We'll provide some basic essentials as well on behalf of the YAW! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions!

Please be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 to attend this in-person event. Note that our household is fully vaccinated and boosted, and we have all also had COVID prior.

We also ask that you RSVP if you plan to attend so we can get a rough head-count - you can do this by simply replying to this email!

We will also be hosting a "virtual feb club" online happy hour concurrent with our in-person event this Friday night, also starting at 7pm. No need to RSVP for this one, you can just show up! I'll get the party started online at 7pm. You can simply click on this link below to join:

Our Yale Alumni Schools Committee Can Always Use more volunteers!

We are now well into our regular decision applicant pool, andYale has received a record number of applications this year - over 50,000 total!. Our ASC directors can always use more alumni volunteers to conduct interviews throughout the state - if you're interested in helping out, just reply to this email and I'll forward on to the appropriate people!

I've personally been involved with interviewing prospective students since I graduated in 1995 and continue to enjoy the opportunity to meet bright and motivated young people and to learn about their journey to their college applications and beyond. I hope you'll all consider joining your local ASC!

Other upcoming events...

We are again looking forward to potentially having some in-person Yale Day of Service events in the spring. This is traditionally held in May on the first Saturday of the month - this year that would be the 7th. Yale has stressed however that this date is just a suggestion - we are actually tasked with making it a month or even year of service! I'm always open to suggestions from our membership for possible volunteering opportunities in the community where our membership could be helpful. Please let me know if you have any ideas!

If you would potentially be interested in helping serve on the board of the YAW in any capacity, please let me know! We continue to work on refining our board membership and our ongoing project of fully incorporating as a 501c3.

Lastly, if you have a suggestion for a social event or educational activity that would be of meaning to the YAW membership, we are happy to help coordinate and advertise!

I hope to see a few of you at my home in Wauwatosa this Friday evening!
