Feb Club Returns in 2023 on Feb 17!

My wife Cristin and I havehosted Feb Club events at our home in Wauwatosa for the last several years and it's always a fun evening. Feb Club started as a tradition in the late 1970's on the Yale Campus as a way for the students to socialize during the dreary month of February. As you may recall, February in New Haven means mostly grey skies, cold, and drizzle for weeks at a time. To fight back against the winter doldrums, the progenitors of Feb Club planned parties all over campus every night of the month for people to meet up. In the late 2000's, Yale saw this as an opportunity and asked local alumni groups to set up "Feb Club Emeritus" events for alumni during the month of February as simple social mixers without any agenda - just a chance to hang out with other Yale alumni. More information on the background and history of Feb Club and Feb Club Emeritus can be foundHERE.

The YAW has hosted an event nearly every year since 2009 and they have always been fun! We get to enjoy hanging out with a great mix of older and younger alumni and graduates from all Yale schools. Several years ago we transitioned away from expensive events in hotels or restaurants and have gone with a more casual cocktail-party approach for our YAW event with great success.

My wife Cristin and I are glad to invite you all over again for this year's event -YAW Feb Club Emeritus 2023 will be Friday, February 17once again at our home in Wauwatosa, WI from 7-10pm. It's a simple cocktail party with other Yale alums and their invited guests. No agenda, no fundraising - just a chance to meet up and maybe meet some new Yalies!

Please RSVP if you plan to attend and find more event detailsHERE.

Yale Day of Service 2023

Local YAW stalwart Jeannine Ruby has been hard at work helping us organize YDOS events for the spring, and has finalized a service opportunity for our Milwaukee area folk to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Yale Day of Service (more info HERE):

Yale Day of Service 2023: Milwaukee
2-4pm on Saturday, May 13
Lake Park, Milwaukee

Join us outside for a joyful afternoon at Lake Park! We will be removing garlic mustard, an invasive weed. Supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own gardening gloves and knee pads or kneeling cushion if you would like. Come alone or with your family. In the event of inclement weather, all registered participants will be contacted by email to confirm if the event is cancelled. Park near Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro.

Please RSVP to Jeannine Ruby DC ‘03, MED ‘08 at jeannine.ruby@gmail.com.

Also - note that we are still working on a possible Madison-area seperate YDOS event. If you have any ideas on other events (looking at you, Fox Cities or Northwestern WI alums!), please let me or Jeannine know!

Other Miscellaneous Updates...

  • We wound up having to cancel our organized Bucks game outting on 1/25/23 as we only sold a handful of tickets - not enough to reserve the block that we had been offered. We can assess interest for a repeat attempt at this next year!

  • Our hard-working Alumni Schools Committee organizers are always looking for more volunteers to help interview the high school seniors from our state that are applying to Yale. If you're interested in learning more and/or volunteering to this enjoyable endeavor, just reply back to this email and we'll get you in touch with the right folks!

  • Many thanks to YAW board member Tim Schell '90 for helping with spearheading some new website options for the YAW - more info to come!
